Our Humble Origins

Hatchet Design LLC was founded by two young graduates from the University of Florida's Graphic Design program. After gaining experience in the field working with clients ranging from the University of Florida to the Orlando Magic, they decided to join forces right here in Central Florida and voila! Hatchet Design was born.

About Our Methods

Because we are a small business, we have the advantage of being extremely maneuverable in an ever-changing market. Having the privilege of working with clients directly allows us to focus on quality driven design that will fit the needs of each project on an individual basis. As we continue to build professional relationships, we are able to connect and direct projects to competitively priced vendors, and suit your production needs...right down to the ground. We are your one-stop shop for all things design.

Our Mission

Our mission is to always produce work in a sustainable and ethical fashion, and our goal is to do this in the smartest, most effective way. Our efficiency of operation allows us to boast a quick turn-around time for design, because we require less time for administrative/non-creative tasks. We want you, the client, to be most directly connected not with those who bill you or answer phones, but with those who will be communicating your message: the designers.

This Hatchet Saves Trees

Our company was founded and operates upon the highest standards of responsibility. We are constantly searching for newer, better ways to improve our eco-footprint as our operation grows. Our company uses a paperless solution through electronic filing, sharing, and scheduling. We even go as far as to use a carbon neutral web-hosting provider! For printed pieces, we make sure to work with FSC certified printers on environmental printing solutions. One of our favorite extra-curricular activities is supporting the local community by going to see live music, eating and drinking locally, and consuming way too much Fair Trade coffee at the local coffee shop. Collaboration is heavily supported between Hatchet and our community of fellow designers, clients, friends, and neighbors and we encourage everyone to participate in redesigning their surroundings.

About Morgan

Morgan
Morgan Slavens, ie Lumberchick, is a young professional set out to change the world. Other than design, her interests include photography, knitting, creating and consuming chocolatey treats, the outdoors, and raiding estate sales. She graduated from the University of Florida magna cum laude, and had the opportunity to travel to Paris and Mexico as a student in the graphic design program. She received the James J. Rizzi Scholarship for her design portfolio and won the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Creativity in the Arts and Sciences Award for a unique board game design. As a Lumberchick, she values her newfound ability to throw a hatchet into a tree (and make it stick) and loves when it gets chilly enough to wear flannel.

About David

David
David Claytor happened into graphic design by accident through a chance meeting with a teacher. Lucky for him it has become his lifetime passion. He loves making things and is always trying to figure out how he can make something himself from scratch, rather than getting anything pre-made. He loves being outside, drawing, grilling, and screen-printing. He graduated from UF's graphic design program after having five student pieces voted into the student design show, Ligature, by industry professionals. Always the student, he continued his education as an intern working with clients like the Orlando Magic, HD Supply, and the Orlando Performing Arts Center. He is notorious for his ever-changing facial hair.
